<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">I’ve had a lot of ups and downs these last two years that I’ve been absent from this blog. We all have them, but what’s your motivation to keep going?</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">Currently my motivation is centered around myself and my 3 girls! I’m motivated to get myself healthier and in better shape, because it not only will help me it will help my girls. If your thinking how is my getting healthy going to help my girls I’ll tell you. If they see me making positive choices and healthy choices they are going to follow my lead. Kids are little sponges they soak everything in and apply it to their life. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">Recently because it’s started cooling down some where I live, I’ve started walking more in mornings. This weekend instead of staying home while I walked my 6yo asked to ride her scooter and pushed me to go further then I normally walk too. Did she get tired? Yes, but she pushed on with some encouragement from me. She’s my biggest cheerleader when it comes to working out and it’s awesome! </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">Then my 11yo whines that she didn’t get to go with me and she HATES cardio of any kind lol. So she felt like she missed out on something by not going and wanted to join us. Next weekend we plan to all go for the walk instead!</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">Same goes for healthy eating, if we shove our faces full of Oreos all day, they will too. But if we keep healthy choices and we eat them as well the kids will follow suit. It’s amazing how simple it is if they just see it and think it’s normal then it becomes normal. I’ll admit my 6yo has started expecting candy every day because we let it slide this summer. Am I trying to reign that in? Sure, but it’ll take a little time to shift her from expecting it every day. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<br />
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">So find that motivation! Make the choices right for you! Even if you start super small with something like getting all your water in for the day it’s a start! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">So I’ve realized it’s been possibly more then 2 years since I was active on my blog and it’s crazy how fast time just flew. I had baby girl #3 in November 2016 and it’s been a whirlwind since then. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">I’d like to say I’ve gotten the hang of this 3 kids thing but nope not so much! It’s always changing and evolving and a constant state of chaos it seems. Until the baby gets a bit older I know this will always be the case and I’m okay with that. I thought #3 would be like her sisters though. Boy was I wrong she is most definitely nothing like them!!!! She still at almost 2 doesn’t sleep well through the night a lot of nights. She also has been fearless since the moment she was mobile. And her personality is adorable and so unique!</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;"></span><br /></div>
<br />
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: ".SF UI Text"; font-size: 17px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: ".SFUIText"; font-size: 17pt;">So this is my I’m trying to get back into the blogging life lol. I didn’t intend to just disappear from it and have thought about it, but life with 3 kids has been something else. Here’s to a new day and a new start </span><span style="font-family: ".AppleColorEmojiUI"; font-size: 17pt;">🥂</span></div>

My 4yo has a horrible cough that kept her home from school and me being 32 weeks pregnant I tend to relax while they are at school anyways.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Soooooo much to the little princesses happiness we snuggled and watched all kinds of kids shows and movies on Netflix all day yesterday!!! So we chilled, but not in the same context as that statement apperantly means per the hip people of the world!<br />
<br />
Now after 3 days of getting to watch Netflix cartoons and movies she's officially addicted and wanted to stay home from school and "chill" rather then go back to the normal. She loved watching Care Bears, Popples, The Boxtrolls and I have no idea what else. It definitely was a nice change from the normal cartoons we watch and good for her to get a wider variety of TV time. </div>

to it!So if you've ever dealt with the trauma of taking a child to get their shots you know sometimes you do all you can to stop the tears! My sweet girl had to get her 4 year shots and brought along a stuffed Sofia doll to help her be brave. Well, be brave she was not, but the nurse offered her stickers after to cheer her up. She denied the stickers and then was offered an extra band-aid so her toy could match. THIS she accepted!!!! <div><br></div><div>So I thought no biggy band-aid would stay on there forever or come off easily. Boy was I WRONG! Sofia became all better about a week after shots and that stinking band-aid was super stuck in her soft doll like skin. Ugh!!!</div><div><br></div><div>Well, I'm here to save you all with this awesome tip I found after googling because I wasn't going to sit here picking tiny pieces off Sofia's leg. Lotion!!!</div><div><br></div><div>Yes, I said Lotion, give your lovey a little lotion on top of and around the edges of the band-aid. Let set for just a second and then slowly peel it off! That's it!!!! I was seriously shocked that this even worked but OMG it did and I saved Sofia from permanently having parts of a band-aid stuck to her leg. Bonus is the lotion I had nearby was a stress relief one that smells great so now so does Sofia! I'm sure this would work for a sticker also and it didn't leave behind any sticky residue either! </div><div><br></div><div>Hope this helps someone else rescue a stuffed animal in sticker/band-aid peril!</div>memoriesmadebyasahmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771053899245989337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-3728293164109269832016-07-21T04:50:00.001-07:002016-07-21T04:50:45.826-07:00Oops.....haven't posted in way to long!Just realized my last post was in May! It's been pretty busy here especially with summer vacation for my oldest and I just sort of let blogging slip to the background AGAIN! I know I haven't been a regular about blogging anyways and don't even know if right now this is more a diary then a blog since I'm not sure if anyone's even reading my posts lol. <div><br></div><div>Well, my last post talked about finding out we were pregnant! It seems like forever ago that it happened and that we surprised our family with the news! That was the hardest longest time we kept a secret. We waited to tell them until our first real appointment which had been at 10 weeks pregnant. There we also found out baby was measuring 11 weeks so we were further along then we thought too. </div><div><br></div><div>For us we couldn't believe we were pregnant again and after having had previous losses we didn't want to get anyone's hope up. We have two beautiful girls but before each of their pregnancies we suffered losses. I thought for sure it'd happen again and we hate having to get people excited and then give them the bad news. So we waited for the first appointment and ultrasound before sharing. Even after that we didn't share with our kids for another couple weeks and more testing. </div><div><br></div><div>Anyways, all is going good on that front we've had some scares here and there but ultimately everything is looking good. In case your still reading I have to say pregnancy is tough and any kind of hiccup during it makes you worried and scared!! Totally normal but still sucks!!!!!!!!</div><div><br></div><div>So other then being pregnant we've been doing summer stuff from soccer camp to swim lessons to trips to the beaches close by! Trying to keep the two crazy kids entertained til school starts back! </div><div><br></div><div>I've taken up crocheting and have been sewing like crazy this summer too. Had to make my good friend stuff for her baby nursery back in May and have continued making crib skirts and blankets throughout the summer for some other friends. Need to work fast as my belly is growing and it's making me not fit in my sewing desk quite so well :)</div><div><br></div><div>Well, there's a breakdown of what I've had going on. I'll try to start posting more often in case anyone is reading!! I have pics lined up to post on making a curtain panel and mending some jeans. Just need to get to the computer to edit easier and get them posted! Have a great rest of the week and hopefully I'll be back to posting soon!</div>memoriesmadebyasahmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02771053899245989337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-43006761794807170642016-05-23T11:16:00.001-07:002016-05-26T05:50:43.260-07:00That is not what I was "expecting"...Just imagine in your mind a sticky note placed close to where your husbands toothbrush usually sits and him thinking "why'd my wife put a note on my toothbrush?" That's the scenario that happened to my husband a few weeks before Mother's Day this year!!! The post-it note stated "that's not what I was "expecting" and it wasn't on his toothbrush but the pregnancy test I'd taken that morning. <div><br></div><div>This is the first time I've ever found out before my husband and we were definitely not planning this!! I actually had planned to see my doctor for a referral about something unrelated but bc I was late again thought just in case I should take a test. Well, sure enough it was positive and I was shocked!!!</div><div><br></div><div>This morning in particular I had to leave before my husband came home to change clothes, so not wanting to text him to tell him the news I had to think! Which is why he'd found the note on his sink on what he at first thought was his toothbrush lol. </div><div><br></div><div>Right around the time I'm sitting down with my youngest to watch my oldest daughter get her AB honor roll certificate the husband calls. I answer since things hadn't started and he just says WTF?!?!? All I could do is laugh and tell him I guess I'm going to clinic for blood test to confirm, but looks like we are having one more!!!</div><div><br></div><div>We both were in shock over it and the blood test did confirm baby #3 is cooking. We kept this newest development a secret until Mother's Day!! Longest time I think ever that we've not told our parents big news it was almost a month! We wanted to wait til my first appointment and ultrasound though because I've had miscarriages in the past. </div><div><br></div><div>Our parents were as shocked as we were though and it was fun to add that to the Mother's Day wishes! </div><div><br></div><div>Anyone else have fun reveal stories? I'd love to read them! This was first time I got to surprise husband with baby news and since I only had minutes to throw something together it was the best I could do. He got the message though and it's a fun story we have now! Next I need to plan how I want to reveal on FB :)</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-44325464685970202242016-03-15T04:02:00.001-07:002016-04-25T11:49:11.988-07:00Honesty on social mediaSo I had an interesting conversation the other day with a group of moms about what people post to social media. Mainly Facebook and how some people just put the best stuff out there and how others put EVERYTHING!! They put the good, the bad, the ugly and probably some more in between. <div><br></div><div>Me personally, I don't like to share every nitty gritty detail about my life on FB. I don't have a huge amount of friends on there, but some of them are more of acquantices then they are real friends. That's just how it goes sometimes on FB though. If you want to be connected you friend the person, but sometimes they just sit there as a friend and you never talk again. Or you friend them and life happens and you don't ever really get to be more then internet friends. Others in my list are people I once hung out with and was great friends with at one time or another until life happened and one of us moved. That's the usual reason my friends list may be bigger then I even feel necessary because I want to stay connected with them even if we hardly talk now. </div><div><br></div><div>It's nice to be able to see how our kids are growing and sort of stay connected with family. I'm just not one to post everything on my FB I only post occasional updates, but usually just lots of pics. The updates I do post aren't usually very personal in detail with the exception of big announcements like new babies or an upcoming move. I'm sure I posted when my oldest broke her arm, but that's something everyone would have seen in a picture eventually. </div><div><br></div><div>To me I don't like to use FB to air my dirty laundry though. There's just something about posting all the downsides and the drama that I don't get! I don't feel as though my life has much drama but even if it did I don't want everyone I know to read about it either. I like to keep some things to myself because it's not like people normally start a conversation with "hey guess what kind of crap happened to me." Usually it's "hey how are you, good, good so what have you been up to." Or something to that affect I'd think. This could all just be me, but I like to keep my private life pretty private and don't tend to complain about my husband to people, now occasionally I'll complain about the kids and their antics but that's a whole other story ;) I seriously had a friend realize one day that I'd never said a bad thing about my husband while she'd be complaining about hers for a few minutes. It's not that he's perfect but I chose to not complain about it. </div><div><br></div><div>I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on this and that's just fine, but this is how I feel about the topic and thought I'd share one honest moms opinion!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-57849974961364028272016-03-06T11:43:00.000-08:002016-04-25T11:51:58.912-07:00New Cutting and Storage Table<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I posted a few days ago about "replacing excuses with fresh determination" and one of the things I mentioned doing with determination was a new table for my sewing room. So today I want to show you what I did! </div></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I had seen <a href="http://littlevws.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">this blog</a> post about making a custom table using storage cubbies and MDF and knew that would be a solution to one of my problems. I needed a more stable and larger space for cutting fabrics and since I tend to have OCD when it comes to things being organized so using cubbies is a bonus I wouldn't argue with. </span><br>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I wish I had taken a before picture, but I didn't so you will have to use your imagination and picture a small card table propped up on those under bed raiser things. You know the plastic squares that help give more height to a bed, yeah I used those to give height to my card table. The biggest problem with this was the lack of cutting space because my mat was bigger then the card table so I couldn't use the whole thing to cut. And I had no extra space to spread out on if I had bigger pieces of fabric. Oh and it was a little wobbly, so yeah, lots of issues with my cutting space!!!</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In came the idea from the post and I had just so happened to switch out my daughters cubbies for a bin organizer so I only needed one more cubby organizer. I had MDF on hand leftover from another project that happened to be close to the right size so I went out and bought another cubby organizer and got <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">to work. </span></span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">First I had to rearrange my room to fit my new table, so my house looked like "a training obstacle from American Ninja Warrior" according to my hubby.</span> </span><br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"></span><br>

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">The sewing room looked pretty clean as you can see in the back ground, but the rest of the downstairs surrounding it was a giant mess!!!</span><br>
<br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">In came the fitting my new table into the sewing room. I didn't need a big corner desk like the post had and frankly I didn't have the room in what is supposed to be our formal dining room for that, so I improvised. I wanted to use MDF I had left over and it measured 49 inches by 31 inches, the tops of the cubbies measure 36 inches long so my MDF ended up being a bit shorter. No big deal I'll show you what I did to make it work!</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">So once I rearranged the two desks I had in the room already and had turned the downstairs into the training course I assembled the new cubby organizer. Then I put it and the other one in their new space and measured from the outer edges of each to make sure that they were spaced for the MDF to go right on top.</span><br>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Then I got hubby to help out and we set the MDF in place and I went underneath to mark where I wanted to place some scrap 1 by 2 to use as sort of rails to keep the MDF in place and not shift off the cubbies. We simply attached these rails with three nails each to the underside of the MDF. (On a side note don't nail things down after the kids go to bed they get a little upset at the loud banging going on!!!)</span><br>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">After we did that I put the MDF back in place and used it for a day only to realize that leaving about 5 inches of space and not putting something to stop the MDF from sliding back into the wall while cutting was not a good idea. So I went to Lowes and got a 1 by 4 cut to 49 inches and have placed that in the back along the back side of the MDF. I'm planning to paint the whole top white, so right now there is still a little shifting, but after I paint it all I'm going to nail the 1 by 4 into the cubbies. That way the 1 by 4 will be secure and keep the MDF from moving into the wall. I also think that because I'm only nailing the 1 by 4 when we move again taking that off will be a lot easier then if I glued things down like they did in the tutorial I got the inspiration from. </span><span style="font-family: Helvetica;"></span><br>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My 1 by 4 in place at the back of the MDF</td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">If you don't think you will be ever needing to move the table you could put liquid nails all over the top of the cubbies and secure the top that way. I have to plan for more moving in my future though and don't want to lose my awesome new table, so we will only nail in the 1 by 4 to prevent slipping back and the rails underneath keep it in place also.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">All in all I'm super happy with my project. If you don't already have your wood on hand I would definitely recommend getting the MDF made to the size of the top of the cubbies and the length you need it. I just wanted to work with what I had though to save money. Especially since hubby thought I was crazy when I said that I really was planning to do this. </span><span style="font-family: Helvetica;">I love my new table though and haven't had a chance to paint because I had a sewing request come in that I need to use the table for now. I've driven past the same sign at the same church for months now. I seriously think they wrote the phrase on there after Christmas and never took it down. I'll have to take a picture as I drive by, but it's gone from wow that's motivational to man I should really freaking wake up and listen to it!!!</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
"Replace your excuses with fresh determination." </h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
Read it and then read it like 60 more times!!! It really starts to stick after you read it a few times and then BAM it hits you. It's like a big "hello" greeting you saying to stop making excuses and start doing stuff!!!</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
So I write this in hopes that it does the same for someone else! </h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
What am I being motivated to do, well, a lot actually. I'm considering becoming a realtor, working on a big sewing project for my husbands cousin, trying to blog more then once a month, start some quilts, and the list could go on. One thing I have been wanting to do since I saw <a href="http://littlevws.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">this blog post</a> is to make myself a cutting table for my sewing area. So after redoing my youngest daughters toy storage I had an extra cube organizer and I got started cleaning and deciding a new layout. My downstairs is now an obstacle course, but I have the starts of a new table and just have to find where everything will go. I'll do a post about my redo very soon. </h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
Motivation may not always be there when you have kids taking over your life, but remember you need to take care of you too! So please "replace your excuses wth fresh determination" and you will succeed!</h4>

My girls and their dad are OBSESSED with Star Wars and the fever really striked the house when the new Force Awakens came out. My kids wanted to go see it with their dad, but he wanted them to see the originals first. So we spent two weekends watching all the original Star Wars. (by original I mean 4-6, because I'm told those are the only ones that count, lol)</h4>
<br />
<h4>
That's when the fever hit my kids hard!!! They've all become obsessed and every time they see anything with Star Wars it gets pointed out. </h4>
<br />
<h4>
My oldest decided she wanted to check out books at the local library (amazing what you can find at the local library, I'm just saying) and can you guess what she checked out?!? Yup Star Wars!!! One of the books was a <a href="http://amzn.to/1QozpU0" target="_blank">craft book</a> so I was tasked with making most of the items both kids wanted. Thankfully most of the stuff that I needed to create these crafts you can find at the local dollar store!</h4>

The kids also want light sabers, but we need either paper towel tubes or gift wrap tubes and I don't have any on hand yet. It was my anniversary and my sweet friend was supposed to watch the kids all day. Well, her kid ended up sick and we didn't know until we arrived. So plan B was made at the last minute. <div><br></div><div>Family is part of why we get married, so only fitting to me we spend the day as a family doing special stuff as a family. Off to the big city we go and drive around looking for a new restaurant to try as a special treat. We found a fun looking seafood restaurant tucked away on a side road and headed on in. The food was delicious and it was great discovering this as a family!</div><div><br></div><div>After that we continued on with our original plan of trying to find a new bedding set. We like to follow the suggested anniversary gift ideas and this was year 13 for us! The gift listed for year 13 was lace or textile/furs. Lace is kinda hard to get for a guy really which is why we decided on some new bedding, that's a textile, right?!? </div><div><br></div><div>The Bed, Bath and Beyond didn't disappoint and we found a great set, so we couldn't leave the kids out. Toysrus was right next door and we took the kids over there and allowed them to pick a new toy. Barbie Rock and Royals for the win for my girls!!</div><div><br></div><div>Not the day we intended or the places we planned to go, but over all a great family day out with special treats for all of us!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-50702335706785818672016-02-14T12:05:00.002-08:002016-02-14T12:05:44.179-08:00LentAccording to the Oxford Dictionary Lent is: the period preceding Easter that in the Christian Church is devoted to fasting, abstinence, and penitence in commemoration of Christ's fasting in the wilderness. In the Western Church it runs from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday and so includes forty weekdays.<br />
<br />
In the Catholic church that I attend they highly encourage attendance to the Ash Wednesday Mass to help symbolize the beginning of Lent and get you spiritually prepared for the Lentil season. I signed my oldest out of school so that we could go to Mass and then take the rest of the day to talk about our sacrifices we planned to make for Lent. This year is the first year my 8 year old really understood that we give up something we love during this time as a personal sacrifice, but she really wanted to give up something also. It's great that in her Sunday school teachings she's learned about this and understands that this is our way of sacrificing something we love just like Jesus fasted for 40 days leading up to Easter.<br />
<br />
My daughter decided to give up playing her DS which to her is a very special possession that we truly limit her time allowed on it. While I tend to give up Facebook as this is something that I enjoy wasting to much time reading every day. (It really is scary how many times I would check FB to see updates from friends and the random pages/groups I like). I do get my messages from there so if someone was to reach out to me I would know, but otherwise I don't spend that time I used to on there. My daughter and I have also talked about doing things for others during this time and we've already donated some items to a local family who lost everything in a tornado that happened a little over a week ago.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping that we grow as a family during this time of Lent as we will definitely be spending more time together with fewer distractions from the things we have chosen to give up! I hope that any of you reading this that celebrate Lent will also think about not only giving up something, but also doing an act of charity during this time!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-46122893539614018962016-02-02T13:40:00.001-08:002016-02-02T13:40:47.954-08:00Valentines<h3>

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-43328311907308568282016-01-09T04:43:00.000-08:002016-01-09T04:43:10.651-08:00mommy lifeThere are moments when I wonder if I should go back to work, because I've been a stay at home mom (SAHM) for over 8 years now! It's been a long time since I've held a long time job, I had a couple part time things I did over the years after having my oldest, but none for more then 4/5 months. Literally, I haven't worked more then part time since 2007 and that's crazy to me! I loved working I loved having a place to be and a job to do with it's set schedule and plans.<br />
<br />
You know what though? I LOVE being a SAHM too! I didn't think that I would at first I honestly couldn't picture my life as "just a mom" and still there are days I wonder if it's right for me. I think we all do! We all start feel like our kids are our life and that we don't have a life of our own. In a way it's true, at least for me. My life really does revolve around my kids and their schedules and most of my friends now are other moms who's kids are in my daughters class, or for my youngest kid close to her age that I've met the mom too. We both needed adult conversations, so we have playdates to let the littles play while we can have a conversation using "big words" and not "baby talk". <br />
<br />
I have a few friends that like to remind me I'm not "just a mom" and I love them for that, but most days I do feel like mom is my title and life and there's not much else to it. Other days though, I'm sewing or typing or talking to an adult and I feel like I'm a separate entity from my kids and that's nice too. I'm dreading the next school year in a way because my youngest is going to start pre-k which means I will have 6.5 hours Monday through Friday where it's just ME! What the heck am I supposed to do with that much time? every day of the week????? <br />
<br />
Honestly, I can think of a ton of stuff that I can do with that time and I'm sure I'll accomplish a lot more sewing during those hours, but I'll also miss my little one running around. I'll also miss her asking me to "just cuddle me all day" while we watch a movie together! Yeah, that one happened yesterday! I said awe of course I'll cuddle, but it only lasted maybe 30 minutes. It's times like this that make that baby fever kick back in!!! Then I will have more mommy duties to take care of all day and no time to think about having 2 kids in school. Hubbies not on board with that idea though he thinks 2 girls is enough, so I guess I'll be filling the hours with sewing, maybe some cleaning and who knows what else. I've even thought about getting a job again, but yeah it's way to early to decide if that's going to happen or if I want it to happen. <br />
<br />
For now I will enjoy the last few months of one on one time I get with my youngest while her sister is in school and we will have a fun summer before she starts her first year of school!!! Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-14719796674141058992016-01-08T13:14:00.000-08:002016-01-08T13:14:44.968-08:00New Year.....New Goals!Every year you see New Year, New You, or questions about your new years resolutions and what your plans are to make this year better then the last! Well, I definitely get on board with the new year, new you and the need for weight loss after the holidays! I mean who doesn't completely gorge themselves on cookies, candies and other assorted treats starting in October and ending sometime after Christmas....if your lucky! <br />
<br />
I don't ever give myself a weight goal to hit, because honestly I've weighed about the same since I had my second kid 3 years ago. I have fluctuated and did lose a good bit of baby fat, but never did much to help drop the weight. Who really has time with two kids?!?!? Well, really that's no excuse I've decided. You have to make time if you want to make a change! Over the summer I was sent a link to a mom who does work outs in her home and had lost 100 pounds IN HER HOME! Yes, it takes proper diet also, because eating leftover chicken nuggets and pizza isn't good for you if you want to drop a few pounds. Sad I know!!!! Anyways, back to the work outs, I was told about this work out challenge that was being done and one was starting up for summer. So I took the challenge! 90 days of work-outs, what the heck was I thinking committing myself to that?!?!? <br />
<br />
Well, 90 days is a long freaking time in the summer when both kids are at home and your trying to work out. It's also long when you have a two week road trip planned!!! So I probably did more like 75 days even though I did extend past when the challenge ended since I skipped about all of the two weeks we were gone. I picked it back up when we went home :) To hard for me to work out on the road especially when internet wasn't always available. <br />
<br />
You know what happened during that time.....I DIDN'T LOSE ANY WEIGHT!!!! That's right NONE, however, I did slim down in areas and get muscles as big as mountains if you asked my oldest! This is why focusing on weight can't always happen! I got so upset that I pushed myself so hard while doing the work outs and I ate a little better, but lost nothing!!! Such a disappointment to my ego I'd say, but I took pictures and compared them and could tell I did get more toned in my arms and legs and slimmed down in areas. <br />
<br />
So where am I going with this? Oh yeah, new year goals! My goal now is to focus on another 90 day work out challenge and not stress about the number on the scale! It matters to everyone in their own minds and ways, but who really knows that number besides you? Well, your doctor and maybe your significant other and that's it. What people will notice is you slimming down and toning up and guess what else? <u>Muscle weighs MORE then fat!!!!</u> Yup, that's right, the thing you want most is muscles and toned arms and legs and those things add weight to the scale! So rather then focusing on a number I'm going to focus on how clothes fit me and how toned and strong my body is becoming! <br />
<br />
I really do feel better when I get in a work out and I am doing them from home. There's tons of free videos on YouTube of work out's you can do in your living room. I literally only use hand weights and a chair in my living room to work out and get fitter. My husband has told me he doesn't like taking measurements for me anymore because my calves put his to shame and my thighs are like rocks so there's no need to measure them anymore. I just laughed and asked how I'm supposed to track changes, his response was to just take the before and after photos since those were what truly show the difference!<br />
<br />
Still thinking you don't have time, trust me you do! The kids want to watch TV forever anyways, so why not take your tablet to another room and load up a video and get to work! I've done that before, but I like putting the videos up on my TV through the Blu-ray player. So I let the kids work out with me which sometimes means lots of stopping, or they eventually go play in their room, but I get the work out done and I feel much better about myself after that. I promise it can be done and you don't have to go torture yourself with the gym and daycares if you don't really want to. I did love going to the gym back in the day, but options here are limited and daycares in gyms are only certain hours or not available at some gyms. So this works great for me, but even a walk around the block could help, so just make the time and do this one thing for YOU!!!!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-39735718058579192602016-01-08T12:46:00.004-08:002016-01-08T12:46:51.175-08:00A Halloween post I totally forgot to hit publish on, ooppssssSo Halloween came and went this <strike>past weekend</strike> correction months ago, and I feel like my friend said it best the <strike>other day </strike>also months ago, she said "I feel like I'm the Grinch of Halloween!" I read her Facebook post saying that and thought, yeah that sounds just like me. She posted it maybe the day before Halloween, but I'd been feeling it for at least a week!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Before my little family and I moved Halloween was one of the bigger holidays we celebrated. My dad would come over and help pre-decorate the house for our Halloween activities. We'd always set up fun stuff to look at leading up to the day and then the night of we'd figure out how we want to scare people. Of course, as years evolved and kids came into the picture the scare tactics were limited, but they were still there. This was always one of my favorite holidays mainly because my Dad and I bonded over it. This was our thing for the most part and he and I would get really into setting things up. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now that I've moved away the decorations have been limited on set up, because the addition of a second kid meant our time was spent on them more then decorating the house. The house I'm in now had very few people in the neighborhood last year so we did a few decorations, but took the kids elsewhere for trick or treating. This year there are more houses and people, but I just didn't feel in the spirit I guess. Due to traveling I didn't even get the chance to take the kids to a pumpkin patch which has been a tradition I started when we had our first. I think that combined with my mom getting the kids costumes months in advance I just didn't feel the same about it this year. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've always made or at least been the one to purchase and decide on my kids costumes, but grandma stepped in this year and got some cute dress up dresses from Cracker Barrel of all places. Don't get me wrong these dresses were amazing!!!!! One looked similar to Elsa the other was a witch costume with lots of sparkles everywhere! They were fabulous and the girls were in love when they got them and didn't stop talking about which ones they'd wear. They both got two dresses, but chose the Elsa and witch the others were similar to rapunzel and another orange colored witch versus the purple that was chosen.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
So I was kind of Grinchy for Halloween this year and I'm okay with that. The girls had fun going to two days of trunk-or-treating and we did go to a few houses that were handing out candy when we arrived home. I'm just hoping this isn't an insight into the rest of the holidays as I don't want to be a Grinch the rest of the year, but I know that Christmastime is a really hard time to be a Grinch when you have two kiddos at home to raise your spirits!!!<br />
<br /></div>

We only had to leave the house for things on Monday and Wednesday. So I took full advantage of that and spent the other three days at home working on projects!! It was a change from the week before because I had my mom in town the week before and I didn't get much of anything done that week. </span></p><p class="p2" style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span class="s1"></span><br></span></p><p class="p1" style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;"><span class="s1" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">It was a good week and I got several things finished and more laid out and started. It's a good thing too as I signed up to set up a table at a local winter festival in order to try and sell items I've made. Which is great and a good way to get my skills noticed more, but you need products made in order to sell!! Kind of an important part of the process I think! Thankfully, baby girl is happy to play and color and watch some TV while her sister is at school and as long as I feed her occasionally she lets me work. </span></p><p class="p2" style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span class="s1"></span><br></span></p><p class="p1" style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal;"><span class="s1" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">So if she wants to insist on staying in her pjs all day and "having a pajama day" as she calls it I'm fine with that!!! I like doing this because your not limited to what you find in the store and it opens a whole world of ways to finish off your project. It also allows you to have different sizes of binding, though I prefer using 2 1/4 inch strips to create my binding. Which gives me a 1/4 inch wide binding when completed.<br />
<br />
When making your own binding be sure to cut the strips on the bias so that they have a stretch to them and makes it easier to wrap around your project and to fold corners. I will make a post about how I cut my fabric to make bias strips another day I promise!!! One really cool thing about cutting fabric on the bias is if you are using a striped fabric it will put the stripes on the diagonal giving you a cool candy cane affect if that makes sense. I wish I had a picture on hand of what I mean, but of course I don't so I will try to find a stripe to do the tutorial on when I do it, so you see what I mean.<br />
<br />
Okay, so onto why I really wanted to make this post. I was given a <a href="http://amzn.to/1ViFERP">Quilt Binding Express</a> by my awesome mom and finally got the chance to use it not that long ago when I finished a quilt that had been sitting in my to do box forever. Well, I had seen this odd pressing board and wondered if it would really help speed along the binding making process and IT DID!!!! While I love making my own binding it gets to be tedious when your pressing close to 200 inches of fabric in half to make your binding. This nifty tool helped by folding the fabric in half for me and I just had to press it down as I pulled it through the slot.<br />
<br />
In case your lost as to what on earth I'm talking about I'm going to post a few pictures of what I did and how the tool worked!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiCCLBUBiuXsBHtbVA8bFRWP4svdpjLrgBCbAxtMSImYfzeh3wOEz0cQ3kTBzWrnJVl73COSQyzR9Dudm8glGcDi_59N7csS0I4otrgqmZrleuUpNl7xt_7B2KNvKJqQU0nqEYevKc9Hg/s1600/IMG_0260.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiCCLBUBiuXsBHtbVA8bFRWP4svdpjLrgBCbAxtMSImYfzeh3wOEz0cQ3kTBzWrnJVl73COSQyzR9Dudm8glGcDi_59N7csS0I4otrgqmZrleuUpNl7xt_7B2KNvKJqQU0nqEYevKc9Hg/s320/IMG_0260.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
So here's the tool set up with all the normal ironing tools and my binding strip. As you can see you pull your strip through from right to left and then press on the little board that's attached. It has 3 slots for your binding strips too, so you can use this for 2 1/4, 2 1/2 and 2 inch binding strips. You simply fold your strip in half with wrong sides together and start pulling through the slot marked at what size strip your using. Then you just pull to the end of the pressing mat attached and press the strip while its all lined up on the mat. </h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICMdMdjPbKU7ZHQFr9cknDAnbMCfreqQ-LeoQexqjM4QMXgy8K3GPlxCUaTfZqZQGyOkPlpcqvnCqzcrYS_5x9OU82F6smFMD1g7PRhYDEPm0LbOCW6C3PColxScbceipn6VxTKvswb0/s1600/IMG_0262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICMdMdjPbKU7ZHQFr9cknDAnbMCfreqQ-LeoQexqjM4QMXgy8K3GPlxCUaTfZqZQGyOkPlpcqvnCqzcrYS_5x9OU82F6smFMD1g7PRhYDEPm0LbOCW6C3PColxScbceipn6VxTKvswb0/s320/IMG_0262.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<h4>
Here's a close up of my strip coming through the slot. One thing you do have to watch for is your strip getting out of alignment. If you pull somewhat slowly your strip will come through the slot exactly even with itself, but if you get to moving to quickly it will get a little out of whack like the picture shows here. It takes a simple pull of the fabric to straighten it back out and get going again though. For the most part I didn't have to readjust my fabric to much and I got through my pile of binding pretty quick with the tool. So totally worth picking up a <a href="http://amzn.to/1ViFERP" target="_blank">Quilt Binding Express</a> in my opinion as it does save time and a lot of the headache involved when making your own strips!</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbNBIvUzluUWYaIjEg_YfboZRLviB7tptt2pubdKSbL9khlcaoupBoZvdMG9J9N8vaM9Co2_CkY_vLxe-1hSucoZTad3c5MbOVpbHTq_L1B7WMK-wmwY40vi9Werp33CfDs9RjoIoK6RQ/s1600/IMG_0304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbNBIvUzluUWYaIjEg_YfboZRLviB7tptt2pubdKSbL9khlcaoupBoZvdMG9J9N8vaM9Co2_CkY_vLxe-1hSucoZTad3c5MbOVpbHTq_L1B7WMK-wmwY40vi9Werp33CfDs9RjoIoK6RQ/s320/IMG_0304.JPG" width="240" /></a> Here's a picture of my binding attached to the quilt I made it for. I have to admit in my rush to get things done I didn't cut the fabric on the bias the right way and so the binding strips have the flowers in the same direction as the border strip at the edge of my quilt. This wouldn't have happened this way had I cut things right as the binding would have made the flowers be at an angle, but we all make mistakes and I didn't have the extra fabric to start over. This quilt went to my daughter who is 3 and doesn't care anyways, she's just happy to get the blankey from me! </h4>
<h4 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</h4>
<h4>
Anyways, I wanted to show you this picture more because you can see a different way to finish off attaching your binding. Instead of attaching my binding to the front and bringing it to the back of the fabric I did the reverse. Then when I pulled the fabric to the front to sew down using my machine I picked a fun decorative stitch to sew it down. You can see that on this picture instead of just using a straight line to sew down the binding I picked a stitch that does little slanted lines going both ways and has a straight stitch down the middle. So I tried to keep the straight stitch close to the original sewing line I made when sewing my binding onto the back and let the slants go onto the binding and into the border fabric. If you were to see the back of the quilt some spots I did better then others keeping things lined up, but from the front almost all of it I kept things lined up pretty good. This took the stress out of making sure I lined things up right on the back of the quilt so that the front looked good since I worked on the front to finish the quilt. You could even just do a straight line stitch to sew it down, but sew on the front if you wanted to. I just liked the idea of using a decorative stitch that I wouldn't normally use on my machine!</h4>

<h4>
Have fun with your binding if for no other reason to give yourself a desire to get it done. I know getting a binding onto a quilt sometimes is the worst part for some people, but if you add fun touches to it then it's more exciting to complete!</h4>

<h2 style="text-align: center;">
Tradition Fleece Tie Blanket instructions</h2>
<h3>
Materials:</h3>
<ul>
<li>1-1 1/2 yards of fleece in two colors or a print and a color- I used 1 1/2 for my 3year old, but for a smaller child 1 yard would be plenty.</li>
<li>Good scissors or a rotary cutter and mat</li>
<li>Ruler</li>
</ul>
<h3>
Instructions:</h3>
So a traditional Tie Blanket is pretty easy! Simply take your two pieces of fleece and lay them with wrong sides together, smooth out all the wrinkles and then straighten up all your edges. You'll also want to cut off the selvage edges from the longer sides. Don't worry to much about getting an even line because you won't be able to tell when your done anyways. The big thing is to not have it to far off, but with all the edges even.<br />
<br />
Then you will cut out a corner that is 4 inches by 4 inches like you see in the picture below. Just discard those squares or give them to your little one to use for their dolls!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNbXuf1SX932Ta0CM3fBbJrMbtyuUKUp9Rz7y6ANokJcqNkFof9_Lnhlkwae7aba7IBulGG_8X6R8sVxTW9sDI9krkKlXWg6KYci7DRUlzbMTTI1l2TwDngEaBOwn9_d2IlnPAdS7vXfY/s1600/IMG_0081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNbXuf1SX932Ta0CM3fBbJrMbtyuUKUp9Rz7y6ANokJcqNkFof9_Lnhlkwae7aba7IBulGG_8X6R8sVxTW9sDI9krkKlXWg6KYci7DRUlzbMTTI1l2TwDngEaBOwn9_d2IlnPAdS7vXfY/s320/IMG_0081.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Now you will cut strips in the fabric that are 4 inches long by an inch to an inch and a half wide. I am for an inch, but usually end up cutting them slightly wider. If you use a rotary cutter and a mat it's a little easier to keep this neat and close to the right size. With scissors I like to lay my measuring tape on top of the fabric to do the measuring. Below you can see where I actually did a combination of measuring tape and mat, but I don't recommend using a metal measuring tape like I did! I totally ruined a new blade because I kept accidentally running into the metal tape and it nicked my blade :(<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyFavafQ84GmSlGVTIj4raeasvvk7MGp9dyuMdjVhvtm8q2hHCKixohV7Vclj2G_iPRbD6GOZxQB2NOoGJkvTjUBVTuxtEX7cXrod88jKU6QsN-kbmb9jSeCmgkp1E7YIJB3NO8ciyQYs/s1600/IMG_0085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyFavafQ84GmSlGVTIj4raeasvvk7MGp9dyuMdjVhvtm8q2hHCKixohV7Vclj2G_iPRbD6GOZxQB2NOoGJkvTjUBVTuxtEX7cXrod88jKU6QsN-kbmb9jSeCmgkp1E7YIJB3NO8ciyQYs/s320/IMG_0085.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Once you cut all your strips all the way around you simple take one pair of strips, a top and a bottom strip, and you tie them together. I like to double knot them to make sure they aren't going anywhere! Make sure on the edges that feel a bit stretchier (not sure that's a word lol) that you don't tie them as tight or pull as tight because it will distort the fabric a little. No one will notice though so don't worry if your a bit more aggressive in your knot tying. I also like to watch how I pull my knots so that way the solid fabric I chose shows on the top and the printed strips are at the bottom. Check out my picture below you'll see what I mean!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I chose a lavender for my solid bottom fabric and when I tied my knots I just made sure to pull that towards the top layer so it's visible from the top and adds a nice accent to the blanket.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>

<h4>
Once you tie all the way around your blanket you are done!!! Then it's ready for your little one to snuggle underneath, or they make a great gift too! <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My little one being silly snuggling under her blanket! Love me some little piggies!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
****update: if you wanted to make a baby or toddler sized tie blanket, you could use 1 yard and cut that in half, so you'd have 36 inches by about 29 inches and can make two out of the yard. You would cut 3inch fringe instead of 4 since it's a smaller blanket, so you'd also cut a 3x3 square out of the corners! This is a good size for them to have a lovey as some people like to call it and they can be covered by it or just snuggle it, but it's a better size to be totted around with them!<br />

I was so excited because <a href="http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-7693638-10781544-1393449452000" target="_blank">Hancocks Fabric</a> had fleece on sale for only $3.99 when I went in there on a mission to find it!!! My oldest wanted to steal a fleece blanket we did the traditional ties around the edges from my Mom, but it's one we made her for Christmas so I had to veto that choice she was making. Instead I promised to make her one of her own that was bigger since her blanket was from when she was much younger and to small to snuggle under it anymore.<br />
<br />
Well, I can't buy fabric for one kid and not the other, so for my almost 8 year old I bought 2 yards of fleece in one print and one solid and bought 1 1/2 for my 3 year old. The <a href="http://elementalcarbon.blogspot.com/2012/06/fleece-blanket-with-crocheted-edge_24.html" target="_blank">post</a> I found was to make a crocheted/braided edge on the fleece blanket as opposed to the traditional ties most people do. Still a no-sew technique which is good with how bulky fleece can be, but a much different outcome!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Braided edge on my daughter's fleece blanket!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I loved this braided look so much I went back to <a href="http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-7693638-10781544-1393449452000" target="_blank">Hancocks</a> and bought more fleece, which was still on sale, to make blankets for both my nieces for Christmas! One niece is a teen and one is almost there so knowing what to get them is just getting harder and harder! Anyways, apparently summer time is a great time to buy fleece too, I went once a month July, August, and September and all three times most of their fleece was on sale for under $5 a yard! Plus they have great coupons that can be stacked on top of the already great price. This makes it to where if your making a bigger fleece blanket, as I am, your basically only paying for one piece of fleece as opposed to the two layers you need.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Okay, so when making the braided sides to my fleece blankets from the tutorial, I noticed a couple things. The slits need to be cut closer to the edge of the fabric for it to lay good and flat, but I was worried about the fabric breaking. So I had cut mine maybe a half inch in from the edge and with a little wiggling it still laid nicely! Also I noticed it's not easy to get an exact slit cut, but it doesn't matter to much!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm sure if you haven't checked out the other post yet you're confused, but I'll post a couple pics of the process in case you don't want to blog hop :)<br />
<br />
So just like in a <a href="http://memoriesmadebyasahm.blogspot.com/2015/09/traditional-fleece-tie-blanket-diy.html" target="_blank">traditional tie blanket</a> your going to cut out a square from all four corners of your fleece. First, of course lay out both pieces of fleece with the wrong sides together, so you have a right side touching the floor and one facing the ceiling. Then you will cut 2 inch by 2 inch squares out of all the corners, cutting through both pieces of fleece. After that's done you will then cut your strips just like with a tie blanket, but shorter, so these will be 2 inches long by 1-1 1/2 inches wide. Doesn't have to be perfect though you do want them as close to the same as you can.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUbrRINrqmvgPKv-5FeSY6A5RHOlhw08sMq-1SCf-DZ-dNMcYmmZlqbZ-EjIbA9lwlcNbU_5R5ScwNtWmKhZcFw6ohVW2pWUXhHYvWQccUMXPd43R2cBg258oSLiFCq1qRXKTuDCJaeYg/s1600/IMG_0015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUbrRINrqmvgPKv-5FeSY6A5RHOlhw08sMq-1SCf-DZ-dNMcYmmZlqbZ-EjIbA9lwlcNbU_5R5ScwNtWmKhZcFw6ohVW2pWUXhHYvWQccUMXPd43R2cBg258oSLiFCq1qRXKTuDCJaeYg/s320/IMG_0015.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You can see none of my cuts are perfect, but in the end it really doesn't matter!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Once all the strips are cut start at one corner and skip the first two strips, then on the 3rd strip your going to need to cut the slits I was talking about. This is where you start doing something different from the original tie blankets. In the post I read she took each pair of strips, (the top and bottom fabric at same time) and folded them in half to cut the strips sort of in the middle. This works for sure, but I realized I could do the same thing with my rotary cutter!! I did do it by folding over and it works, I just found it more time consuming and it already takes awhile to cut all the fringe. So on my nieces blankets I just used the rotary cutter, setting it down maybe a half inch in from the raw edge and pushing down then cutting towards the center to make about a 1 inch slit in the center of each strip. You will make a slit in ALL the other strips you cut except for those first two you skipped.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Using a rotary cutter for both cutting my strips and slits made things go a little bit faster and made for neater slits! </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Once all the slits are cut you will then start on the blanket working in reverse from where you started. So start on the last slit you cut, assuming you just went around the blanket after skipping the first two. If not just start at the corner next to you two strips that aren't cut and you will take both bottom and top strips and bring the next cut strip through the slit in the one you picked up. You will do this all the way around your blanket until you reach the two strips you didn't cut. When you get there take the first strip without a slit through the last strip with slits and then you tie the last none cut strips to the one you just pulled through. This knots the whole thing together holding all your work in place. I personally double knotted the strips best I could to try and make certain it all stays together!<br />
<br />
Sorry I didn't take any pictures of these last steps, but the are shown on the <a href="http://elementalcarbon.blogspot.com/2012/06/fleece-blanket-with-crocheted-edge_24.html" target="_blank">original post</a> that I found!<br />
<br />
After tying your knots though you are done and have a super cute fleece blanket to snuggle under!<br />

I sure haven't done that up to this point!<br /><br />I've posted some tutorials for sure, but hadn't realized how much work goes into taking the pictures, uploading and typing things out. I'm so meticulous too that I probably type out more then I need to for directions, but I want anyone reading to know exactly what to do without a doubt. <br /><br />There are times when I just want to type out about my day and have no clue if I should or I worry about what others will think. I know that once it's on the internet it's there forever. Even if I delete it once someone's read it and possibly copied or shared it that it may not be deleted after all. <br /><br />Some of these are things holding me back whether they should or not, but they are. It's also about the time it takes even to type up a post about my day. I think if it's worth typing it out or not and if anyone would care. I know people do it all the time and we all have our various social outlets we use. I have a Facebook that I use to post pictures for family and friends but even on there I'm hesitant to write things in my status that could be misjudged. <br /><br />It's important to be this way I think though because it's better to be safe about what you write then to just dish out every aspect of your life!<br /><br />Sometimes I just want to post on here about the stuff I'm not telling family and friends just so I can get it off my chest, but even that I'm hesitant to do. It's all about what I really want anyone with an Internet connection to have access to. <br /><br />I realize no matter what I write there will be someone sitting there reading and judging and I just have to get over that! I'm going to try to do that as there's so many ideas I come up with on things I think someone may want to read or know about. <br /><br />With that I leave you this promise to try and post more even if it's just a quick post about my crazy, beautiful life!!!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-36582853122485808332015-09-17T10:22:00.000-07:002015-09-17T10:22:04.340-07:00My September 11, 2015<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Everyone has their stories of where they were and what they were doing on September 11, 2001. Myself, I was in music appreciation class at the college I was attending. When I got out of class my Mom had left me messages and been calling me to tell me what happened. At the time my Dad was still in the Army so that meant he could be going to fight the war that was about to start. <br /><br />The events of that day have become a huge turning point in the history of our country, but yet some people show no respect for it. Our children learn about it in school now and there are countless amounts of memorials and ceremonies to honor those we lost. <br /><br />I realize that some people may have only been children when the events took place and may not totally understand how much the attacks affected our country and our military. The thing I don't understand is how some people can't even respect a simple moment of silence on the date that this happened. <br /><br />I was more shocked by the mother and her adult daughter at the commissary who couldn't stop shopping for one minute to offer a moment of silence for those affected! The commissary for those who don't know is a military grocery store that only military families have access to. So, of all the places to be and to not just stop for a single minute out of respect is unbelievable to me. All families in the military have been affected by the events on September 11th. That was a turning point in our history and when we as a country began the path to war. Anyone affiliated with the military has been affected even now as the nation still is at war as a result of these attacks.<br /><br />The commissary had done a beautiful job of talking about the events. They stopped the music and the majority of the store was silent just to listen to what they were saying. All you could hear were a few children who just didn't want to be shopping that day, but the rest of the store was silent especially when the moment of silence was announced. It could have been where I was located that I didn't hear anything else, but I definitely heard this mother/daughter coming down the isle I was on. While I'm standing still head bowed in silence they are talking about what chips to buy the little one in their life. When I looked up at them they looked at me as though I was crazy or in the wrong for stopping what I was doing to give a brief moment of silence for those we lost that day. <br /><br />I hope that all of us can continue to remember those events and instead of not being able to stop our shopping just take that moment to reflect! It's been seriously like 12 years or so since we've had a puppy and man I forgot how it can be! Don't get me wrong, I love my new little ball of fur, but man I'm ready for some of these puppy traits to be done!<div><br></div><div>Thinking about getting a puppy let me tell you some ways they are like babies so you can be warned ;)</div><div><br></div><div>1. You have to potty train them!!! Yup they don't just know to not pee on your rug you have to teach them the difference from inside and outside the house. Much like a baby where you have to teach them to no longer just use the bathroom in their pants!</div><div><br></div><div>2. They don't sleep through the night! Nope even puppies need to learn about daytime and nighttime and they need potty breaks throughout the night otherwise you have a mess to clean up. Yeah, so if you just got your baby to sleep all night and you don't want to start all over again then maybe hold off a little while before getting a puppy.</div><div><br></div><div>3. They like to eat and chew on everything!!! Bring on the puppy proofing which is almost same as baby proofing except you don't have to worry about pup opening cabinets and doors.</div><div><br></div><div>4. They need lots of attention and love! Just like a baby needs lots of your time it's better for puppy if they get a lot also!</div><div><br></div><div>5. Lots of doctor visits!!! Yup there's lots of shots they need to be protected from this and that and they recommend them starting at 8 weeks and going on every two weeks for I'm not sure how long lol. But it's a good way to be sure they stay healthy just like with your newborn the doctor gives you extra support and encouragement.</div><div><br></div><div>So as my puppy whines to go out, or get attention, or her toy, yeah I'm not sure what she wants lol, but it's time to jump off here and attend to her! Good luck if you choose to get a new puppy and just be sure to have lots of time to work with your new pup!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE_V9WknNxk7-sHuCxKzgYP5Kr-r_WlqBwFEeZt3D7SrOdHoFLl5ASTuHdH1X5Awt0xWtAopweD-H5vxm3cx4miXgUhPrUwq8yCuzf-19198JUNAYI-g0Gg0ukJgQT450OO_Gb1TfoAM4/s640/blogger-image-483166627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE_V9WknNxk7-sHuCxKzgYP5Kr-r_WlqBwFEeZt3D7SrOdHoFLl5ASTuHdH1X5Awt0xWtAopweD-H5vxm3cx4miXgUhPrUwq8yCuzf-19198JUNAYI-g0Gg0ukJgQT450OO_Gb1TfoAM4/s640/blogger-image-483166627.jpg"></a> My sweet puppy!</div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325281004716561619.post-40271331826519482122015-06-10T13:42:00.000-07:002015-06-10T13:42:01.652-07:00Super quick DIY puppy bed<h2 style="text-align: center;">
Easiest Puppy or Dog Bed!!!!</h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>No seriously this will be the quickest and easiest dog bed I promise! I recently got the most adorable puppy and instead of spending tons of money on "stuff" for her I'm doing a bit of DIY. So I looked through my fabric stash and found some super cute flannel that was the perfect size to make her a bed for her kennel! Couldn't have worked out more perfectly and thought I would share with you all how I did it!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<b>This fits a 19 by 23 inch wire Kennel!</b></h2>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></h2>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<b>Materials:</b></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></h3>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><h4>
<b> fabric (I used flannel, but any would work) measuring 41" by 26 1/2" </b></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<b>Stuffing, (I used leftover batting from quilt projects and extra flannel pieces that I couldn't make myself throw away)</b></h4>
</li>
</ul>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></h4>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
Instructions:</h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
</h3>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First take your fabric and fold it in half with right sides together, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
do this on the longer side like your closing a book if that makes sense.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq8gHiacuU7JySNm68MRHh_9QCCNXR8Ygri_LswO2mHZs3LnOnMhEW_ki0mgc1z0MHaep135BeOKjBE6yHgR50UUxLQqpcT0mMPPZ-zypjQOb8mN2iPldOcwLLaWd-GuMgWUfrWhEROAE/s1600/IMG_3075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq8gHiacuU7JySNm68MRHh_9QCCNXR8Ygri_LswO2mHZs3LnOnMhEW_ki0mgc1z0MHaep135BeOKjBE6yHgR50UUxLQqpcT0mMPPZ-zypjQOb8mN2iPldOcwLLaWd-GuMgWUfrWhEROAE/s320/IMG_3075.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">fabric already serged with hole on the right side for my turning!</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You will then sew around the three open sides, but leave a hole for turning it and stuffing! I did my hole on the right side opposite of the fold. I serged mine for extra stability, but if you don't have a serger just do a zigzag stitch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk5OrcQLqFXlZDxzTsnJmCPAX2t-PHDEuxd9B3kFSqPVVSz5ze9ubBl5XU27vJOEzeh5eS-qd0qXjZysNpM5RHyzWd1R5NvDrlzIRt6NY7LTPVmRwVMbTiwTjaVrcvW9A3j4TCFGNI6dA/s1600/IMG_3076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk5OrcQLqFXlZDxzTsnJmCPAX2t-PHDEuxd9B3kFSqPVVSz5ze9ubBl5XU27vJOEzeh5eS-qd0qXjZysNpM5RHyzWd1R5NvDrlzIRt6NY7LTPVmRwVMbTiwTjaVrcvW9A3j4TCFGNI6dA/s320/IMG_3076.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">close up of the hole I left, since I serged it I just ran off the fabric where I wanted my hole to go.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now before flipping I decided I wanted to box the corners of this in order to get a fluffier bed, if you want to skip this you can! The bed just might be a bit big in the cage but it still will fit. If you don't box the corners your bed will look more like a pillow. (If skipping the boxed corners, skip down past the next 3 pictures and start reading there.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To box the corners I first brought together the seams at each corner so that they met in the middle,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
then measured 2 inches from the point and put in a pin. (picture below left)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Quick side note, this actually made a bigger "box" then I'd intended. It still fits the cage especially when puppy is squishing down on it, but I almost would measure 1-1 1/2 inches from point if you want a snugger fit in your cage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr0FbOWLCigqigUeFDEMiENcWa7MKcfFWNlbXxY0hOTTphoR5BJ92yqqBSuveCb6Pkbv3PeH7RqTfYgobbxy3O1zSl6N9qWzhBuB7A_Cm0lchNggKSWy78JQj7dMIplW6iKDQPDt_Ltjw/s1600/IMG_3077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr0FbOWLCigqigUeFDEMiENcWa7MKcfFWNlbXxY0hOTTphoR5BJ92yqqBSuveCb6Pkbv3PeH7RqTfYgobbxy3O1zSl6N9qWzhBuB7A_Cm0lchNggKSWy78JQj7dMIplW6iKDQPDt_Ltjw/s320/IMG_3077.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">you can see how this is the seams together with pin at 2"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnuHJAaueYuI4JTYV_p8xJkRNv3dBea7KWJMrGLOF_cEdxmyhtSFXR88Gm8StAOvAi7V7QN7_3KD8yrG_SZFdonFTEbH4PlrdGpDDx9J13w4QWoaa3X3tnmUb3Jy62gEn9o9aLP7Jg20E/s1600/IMG_3078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnuHJAaueYuI4JTYV_p8xJkRNv3dBea7KWJMrGLOF_cEdxmyhtSFXR88Gm8StAOvAi7V7QN7_3KD8yrG_SZFdonFTEbH4PlrdGpDDx9J13w4QWoaa3X3tnmUb3Jy62gEn9o9aLP7Jg20E/s320/IMG_3078.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">when I serged this I lined my pin with the right needle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now if you are serging this the serger will cut the triangle off for you, if you don't have a serger just zigzag a line where the pin is. Be sure if you are using a regular sewing machine that you secure your stitching at this point by either going forward and back a couple stitches or if you have a more advanced machine do a start and stop stitch at beginning and end. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You are sewing as if you'd sew over the pin, some people would draw a line to sew on I didn't I just eyeballed it because I didn't want to take the extra time. If you are sewing this on regular machine you don't have to cut the extra triangle piece off unless you just want to. Serging does it automatically so I went with that and sewed with my right needle lined up with the pin!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVKWSYdYNZ1pqhHAwER1dIMSLFSYEY6B_to1f1OPTzDkJJTzSPqTD_YIOBskKujLFNomsDvHRU5CKbPF30j2YlNbZ7ntRhQ5QqOqi5Sy8L-qSLbuMQ4YG-DHnMEEiw6S7OqkVEl84u2EQ/s1600/IMG_3080.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVKWSYdYNZ1pqhHAwER1dIMSLFSYEY6B_to1f1OPTzDkJJTzSPqTD_YIOBskKujLFNomsDvHRU5CKbPF30j2YlNbZ7ntRhQ5QqOqi5Sy8L-qSLbuMQ4YG-DHnMEEiw6S7OqkVEl84u2EQ/s320/IMG_3080.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is how corner will look after serging and triangles cut off</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pic above shows how it will look and should measure after cutting, like I said above this ended up being a bit deeper or bigger box then I intended. It measures about 3 1/2 inches once flipped, which makes for a good thick bed and only leaves a slight space on sides of cage when puppy isn't laying in it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you serged your puppy bed I recommend you put a little fray check at all the corners before you turn the bed. Just sort of an added security measure, but if you want to tuck the threads back in or some other thing you may do for the tails of your serging that would work too. They may be okay without any action but I just wanted to be extra sure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next flip that pillow right side out and stuff it as full as you want to! I didn't want to make it to firm, but I did want to be sure the pillow looked more like a rectangular or box shape. So I filled it to make it full but not stuffed. I used leftover fleece, flannel and quilt batting to fill our puppies bed because I had just enough on hand! So that saved me spending money and going to the store for this! If you don't hoard scraps of batting and fabrics like I do just fill this up with any kind of craft batting. Just be sure if you buy a <a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20style=%22width:120px;height:240px;%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20marginheight=%220%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20frameborder=%220%22%20src=%22//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ss&ref=ss_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=memabyasa-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B000YZ7G44&asins=B000YZ7G44&linkId=MM5CGLT5CYB6KS3R&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true%22%3E%20%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">bag of fiberfil stuffing</a> that you fluff it out before stuffing it into the bed, this stuff is crammed into those bags and if you fluff it out it will go a long way for you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Time to close up that hole! Just flip in the hem that wasn't sewn when you had it the wrong way so that your edges line up nice and sew it shut. I sewed this on my normal machine versus hand sewing closed as some might say to do. That way it's extra sturdy!!! So I pinned the hole closed and then sewed a straight line as close to edge as I could and once closed I went back over it with a zigzag stitch for added security. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="color: purple;"><b>Rapunzel inspired Play Aprons for Kids and Dolls</b></span></span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I'm so excited my daughter picked out some fabric from <a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-7693638-11642501-1432235097000%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3EOnline%20and%20In-Store%20Coupon%201%20-%20Take%2040%%20Off%20on%20Any%20One%20regular%20priced%20fabric%20items%20by%20using%20code:%20ACHFY%20online%20and%20in%20store.%20This%20coupon%20is%20valid%20only%20through%20June%2010th.%3C/a%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://www.ftjcfx.com/image-7693638-11642501-1432235097000%22%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20border=%220%22/%3E" target="_blank">Hancock Fabric</a> awhile back that she just loved and said was Rapunzel fabric. So since she behaved while we were in the store I picked it up. At first she wanted me to make her a skirt, but I was looking around and found a picture somewhere on Pinterest of play aprons. These were super cute, but it was just a link for someone selling them. I was bummed and did a search for how to make a kids apron, but didn't find any tutorials that made something similar to what I wanted really. So since I already had an apron in the right size to use as template I just decided to get to work and make my own up along the way. Figured that someone else may want to make one for their little's and maybe their matching dolls :)</span><br />

<h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Please note that I ended up making 2 toddler sized aprons, 1 older child and 2 doll aprons from materials I'm listing. I used what I had on hand for everything but the Rapunzel purple fabric, so if you plan to make only one you may have enough materials on hand or not need to purchase as much as I list. A lot of fabric stores have scrap areas for ends of bolts and you can check there for the satin if your only making one.</span></h4>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> <span style="color: purple;">Materials Needed for child/toddler sized:</span></span></h2>
<ul>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">1 yard of Rapunzel fabric or any fabric you choose as skirt and accent fabric. (If you are only making one and the fabric doesn't have to go in one direction because of a pattern you could buy only 1/2 yard)</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">1/4 yard Pink Satin-or scrap satin-toddler sized you need an 8 1/2" square-bigger kids 9 1/2" square</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">1 Roll of Pink Satin Ribbon</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">1 Package or roll of white shimmery <a href="http://amzn.to/1dCpgb2" target="_blank">rick rack</a></span></span></h4>
</li>
</ul>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> <span style="color: purple;">Cutting Instructions: </span></span></h2>
<h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Toddler sized: (made this to fit my almost 3 year old)</span></h4>
<ul>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Purple skirt fabric-14" by 36" or wide of fabric-since I bought a yard I just cut 14" off the bottom, so if you buy 1/2 yard you may want to cut to 36" length as it will get bulky if you don't </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Purple skirt fabric- 2" by 8 1/2"- you need two this size </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Pink Satin-8 1/2" square</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Pink Ribbon-2 at 16" and 2 at 22" </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Rick Rack I didn't measure as I cut, just laid it how I want on satin then cut after I got the affect I wanted</span></span></h4>
</li>
</ul>
<h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"> </span>Child Sized: (my daughter is 7 and this fit her great and should last awhile as it hit below her knees)</span></h4>
<ul>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Purple skirt fabric-16" by 36" </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Purple skirt fabric-3" by 9 1/2"-two needed</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Pink Satin-8 1/2" by 9 1/2" you could do 9 1/2" square just would be wider across chest and I only wanted to add length to satin.</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Pink Ribbon-2 at 16" and 2 at 22" </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Rick Rack I didn't measure as I cut, just laid it how I want on satin then cut after I got the affect I wanted</span></span></h4>
</li>
</ul>
<h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><b>Doll sized:</b></span></span></h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><u>(instructions are all the same as below with exception of the neck ties. Instead of ties I used a piece of cute<a href="http://amzn.to/1KD9vOv" target="_blank"> elastic</a> to make neck hole so the kids just slip the apron over the dolls heads and I don't get asked a million times to tie the ribbon necks. Oh and I didn't bother with rick rack on the dolls version either and so far no child has noticed this fact!!!)</u><b><br /></b></span></span><br />
<ul>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">skirt-7 1/2" by 19"-this will fit an 18" type doll (one pictured above was made 5" by 19" for smaller dolls) </span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">purple fabric for sides-1 1/2" wide by 5"</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">satin-3" by 5"</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">ribbon for waist-11"</span></span></h4>
</li>
<li><h4>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">small piece of elastic cut to 8" for neck maybe a little bigger as some dolls it was a tight fit mainly because my daughter was nervous to stretch the elastic-if you want to use ties instead I would cut 11" ribbon<b> </b>again for waist.<b> </b> </span></span></h4>

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="color: purple;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><b>Assembly Instructions: </b></span></span></span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><b> </b>Instructions are the same for both kids sized aprons, so once you've cut your fabric to the size you need just follow along should be pretty easy!</span></span><br />

I lined it up on my cutting mat and use a ruler to cut an inch off the top and angled it so it didn't cut any off the bottom, see pic on left of how I laid ruler. I forgot this step when I made the child sized and didn't do at all for the doll ones!</span></span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL_MlCFYwyIRvG2lrPNnAu6X9SH0l0gYAEjgIhIJwJgzo0VRWJpE16M3asVKagmxBDO0oU9VOyEeSRxoK87zvWj51gT9Ug-J0treDPySOFiR1xiUrUC4zv8VlU6v5XiMMr6CPUTW6CE9Y/s1600/DSCN2796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL_MlCFYwyIRvG2lrPNnAu6X9SH0l0gYAEjgIhIJwJgzo0VRWJpE16M3asVKagmxBDO0oU9VOyEeSRxoK87zvWj51gT9Ug-J0treDPySOFiR1xiUrUC4zv8VlU6v5XiMMr6CPUTW6CE9Y/s320/DSCN2796.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Next lay out your rick rack, I used two pieces to make this. I started in the top left corner and zig zagged to the bottom right and then did same thing with another piece from right to left. Pin and sew down onto satin in the middle of the rick rack</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrVclCns9fgIZI_fOeSxGZsVcVj1XgiFq5-P3gjuMl73Oh0JJJ-K5ziWtWcmMfyUm4UgUTQ1U6u9YxGuwuzkkgoY-Hte-Az7C7eP0vic9F8QtkoskiDBuMVIakNBfePjA64SfxiKLDXHo/s1600/DSCN2797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrVclCns9fgIZI_fOeSxGZsVcVj1XgiFq5-P3gjuMl73Oh0JJJ-K5ziWtWcmMfyUm4UgUTQ1U6u9YxGuwuzkkgoY-Hte-Az7C7eP0vic9F8QtkoskiDBuMVIakNBfePjA64SfxiKLDXHo/s320/DSCN2797.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Take the 2" or 3" piece you cut and this makes up the side of the top. I used a long strip as I made these and just cut it after sewing down, so if you are reading this before cutting feel free to do that too. Sew the strip to the pink satin right sides together so you can press open.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQrwWOIK9ZWVxEQRkuXG-NidCi5LHjBMrgw6ubKgHiVThjejJ2Yqe46y56G41zFEOPxYqFNESNmeg8HJY4uEhG1Dr88I-C-sTw3hfb91-TTFUZGZ8a5UUgC9cSEv5lIhYGgW4DuYgKMqM/s1600/DSCN2798.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQrwWOIK9ZWVxEQRkuXG-NidCi5LHjBMrgw6ubKgHiVThjejJ2Yqe46y56G41zFEOPxYqFNESNmeg8HJY4uEhG1Dr88I-C-sTw3hfb91-TTFUZGZ8a5UUgC9cSEv5lIhYGgW4DuYgKMqM/s320/DSCN2798.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now set the top part aside and we will make the skirt bottom. For this I sewed a running stitch on my machine to act as my gathering stitch. </span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Choose what part you want to be at the waist, my fabric had a 2" section without flowers by the salvage so I chose that to go at waist.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Then if you set your machine to the highest tension and the longest stitch length it will gather the fabric for you!!! The picture above is how it came out of my machine and that was almost gathered enough that I only had to pull the bobbin thread a little to get it to same size as my top piece! Super easy and love to gather items this way :)</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigrVK7FZFnP0gawGXlxY8Ch4bvlI2RnbWHY9cTD9H8VEf32C_O1UY1CziAVRbSgEb9q-TA94sPnVhFB6ItKZkPCOcV8SDuq4mbLdejIIaUIfMjNTymvm1lpI2C9soKIttYs1_T0AwoqgY/s1600/DSCN2799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigrVK7FZFnP0gawGXlxY8Ch4bvlI2RnbWHY9cTD9H8VEf32C_O1UY1CziAVRbSgEb9q-TA94sPnVhFB6ItKZkPCOcV8SDuq4mbLdejIIaUIfMjNTymvm1lpI2C9soKIttYs1_T0AwoqgY/s320/DSCN2799.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>

<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Once serged I folded over the serged edge onto the wrong side of the apron and sewed it down, this is where you would need the double fold if you don't have a serger! (the black thread is where I sewed down the serging to my back of the apron.)</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I also attached the ribbons at this point too. I tucked the ribbon into the folded part and then folded back over the serging so it's visible on the front. Sorry didn't take a picture of this I can if needed of the finished ones.</span></li>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The ribbons I attached the 16" at the top for neck ties somewhere close to where the purple and pink are sewn together, I didn't do anything special for this just sort of eyeballed where I wanted them. Then the 22" is for the waist ties and put those by where the top and skirt come together.</span></li>

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="color: purple;">I'm super happy with how these turned out and the girls are already trying to get me to make some more in different fabrics! Pattern would work great for a regular apron as well, if you don't want to have side panels on the top just cut the top piece 1 1/2 to 2 inches wider.</span></span></h3>
